Why do my recordings come out as M4A?
Apple devices record voice memos and many Android recorders save audio as M4A (AAC). It is a fine format, but older players, some car stereos and many editing tools want MP3.
Does converting lose quality?
The M4A is decoded and re-encoded as high-quality variable-bitrate MP3 (~190 kbps). For voice and general listening the difference is inaudible.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser via WebAssembly FFmpeg. Personal recordings never leave your device, which our automated tests verify by watching the network.
