How do I make a scanned PDF searchable?
Drop the PDF. Each page is read by OCR on your device and the recognized words are embedded as an invisible text layer at their exact positions. The result looks identical to the scan, but you can search it, select text and copy from it in any PDF viewer.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. The OCR engine (Tesseract compiled to WebAssembly) runs entirely in your browser. Contracts, medical records and IDs never leave your device — there is no server to leak from.
Which languages are recognized?
English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian and Turkish. Pick the language above the drop zone; each language pack downloads once and is cached. Note: the searchable layer uses standard PDF fonts, so a few special characters (like Turkish ğ or ş) are skipped in the invisible layer.
Will the PDF look different afterwards?
No. The visible layer is your scan, re-embedded as a high-quality image. The text sits invisibly on top. File size stays in the same range as the original scan.
How accurate is it?
Clean 300 DPI scans of printed text come out nearly perfect. Skewed photos, handwriting and small fonts lose accuracy. If you only need the raw text rather than a searchable file, use our PDF to text tool.
