Why convert HEIC to PNG?
HEIC is the default photo format on iPhones. It saves space on your phone, but Windows, Android and most websites still refuse to open it. PNG keeps every pixel intact and supports transparency, ideal for graphics and editing.
When you actually need this
Design tools, documentation and anything that will be edited again want a lossless source. Converting an iPhone photo to PNG gives you a file you can crop, annotate and re-save repeatedly without the image degrading a little more each time.
What it costs you
PNG is lossless, so it cannot throw anything away — and that makes it enormous for photographs. Our 1440×960 test photo grew from 287 KB to 3.5 MB, twelve times larger. For a photo you are only going to look at, JPG or WebP is the better target.
What happens to the file size
On this site's own 1440×960 test image, 287 KB of HEIC became 3564 KB of PNG. That is 12.4× the original. Worth it when you need what PNG gives you, wasteful when you do not.

Is PNG the right choice for a photo?
Usually not. PNG earns its size on screenshots, logos and anything with flat colour or sharp text. Photographs have no flat areas for it to compress, so you pay the full lossless price. Pick PNG when the file will be edited again; pick JPG or WebP when it will be viewed.
Is it really private? Where do my HEIC files go?
Nowhere. The HEIC is decoded and re-encoded as PNG by your own browser, using WebAssembly — the same technology behind Photopea and Google's Squoosh. Load this page, switch off your internet, and the conversion still works. There is no upload step to opt out of, because there is no server to upload to.
Is there a file size or daily limit?
No. Your device does the work, so there is no bill for us to protect. The practical ceiling is your own memory: a batch of HEIC files converts fine, but very large images on an older phone can run out of room, and the tool will say so rather than fail silently.
