Why convert HEIC to JPG?
HEIC is the default photo format on iPhones. It saves space on your phone, but Windows, Android and most websites still refuse to open it. JPG opens everywhere — every OS, app, printer and website accepts it without question.
When you actually need this
You emailed holiday photos from an iPhone and the person on the other end got files nothing on their PC would open. HEIC is the iPhone default since iOS 11, and Windows still needs a paid codec from the Microsoft Store to preview it. JPG is the format every device, form and print shop already accepts.
What it costs you
HEIC stores 10-bit colour and JPG only holds 8-bit, so a sunset with a smooth gradient can show faint banding in the sky. It is rarely visible on a phone screen and almost never in print. Live Photos lose their motion: you get the still frame, not the short video attached to it.
What happens to the file size
On this site's own 1440×960 test image, 287 KB of HEIC became 581 KB of JPG. That is 2.0× the original. Worth it when you need what JPG gives you, wasteful when you do not.

Why did my file get bigger?
Because HEIC compresses far better than JPG. Our test photo went from 287 KB to 581 KB at quality 90 — roughly double, for the same picture. That is the price of a format everything can open. Lower the quality slider to 75 and it lands near the original size with no visible difference on screen.
Is it really private? Where do my HEIC files go?
Nowhere. The HEIC is decoded and re-encoded as JPG by your own browser, using WebAssembly — the same technology behind Photopea and Google's Squoosh. Load this page, switch off your internet, and the conversion still works. There is no upload step to opt out of, because there is no server to upload to.
Is there a file size or daily limit?
No. Your device does the work, so there is no bill for us to protect. The practical ceiling is your own memory: a batch of HEIC files converts fine, but very large images on an older phone can run out of room, and the tool will say so rather than fail silently.
