WebP is common on the web, but many desktop apps, printers and older tools still cannot open it. JPG opens everywhere — every OS, app, printer and website accepts it without question.

You saved an image from a website and now nothing local will open it. Photo printers, older editors and plenty of phone apps still do not read WebP, so JPG is the way to get it into a normal workflow.
What it costs you
The file usually grows, since WebP compresses better than JPG. Our 30 KB test image became 60 KB. Transparency is also lost — see-through areas turn white.
What happens to the file size
On this site's own 550×368 test image, 30 KB of WebP became 60 KB of JPG. That is 2.0× the original. Worth it when you need what JPG gives you, wasteful when you do not.

Can I convert an animated WebP?
Not to JPG, which holds a single frame. An animated WebP converts to a still image here. For animation, convert to GIF instead, or use the GIF tools to work with the frames directly.
Is it really private? Where do my WebP files go?
Nowhere. The WebP is decoded and re-encoded as JPG by your own browser, using WebAssembly — the same technology behind Photopea and Google's Squoosh. Load this page, switch off your internet, and the conversion still works. There is no upload step to opt out of, because there is no server to upload to.
Is there a file size or daily limit?
No. Your device does the work, so there is no bill for us to protect. The practical ceiling is your own memory: a batch of WebP files converts fine, but very large images on an older phone can run out of room, and the tool will say so rather than fail silently.
