Why GIFs need resizing
A screen-recorded GIF arrives at full monitor resolution and ten megabytes. Forums cap uploads, chat apps shrink previews anyway, and web pages should not ship desktop-sized animations. Scaling down is the single most effective GIF optimization, and doing it with a regenerated palette keeps the result looking intentional instead of crunchy.

What widths can I resize to?
Pick 240, 320, 480 or 640 pixels wide; height follows the aspect ratio automatically. These cover chat embeds, forum limits and web use. Need something custom? Run the closest size, then run again.
Does resizing keep the colors sharp?
Yes. Every resize regenerates the color palette from the scaled frames (two-pass FFmpeg palettegen), so gradients stay smooth instead of banding.
Is my GIF uploaded?
No. Scaling runs in your browser through WebAssembly FFmpeg. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Does a smaller GIF also mean a smaller file?
Usually dramatically: file size scales roughly with pixel area. Halving the width often cuts the file to a third. For color and frame-rate reduction on top, use the GIF compressor.
