Why does YouTube reject my thumbnail?
Thumbnails must be under 2 MB (and ideally 1280×720 pixels). Resize to 1280×720 first, then let this page pull the file under the cap — text and faces stay sharp.
Is any quality lost at 2 MB?
Almost never visibly: 2 MB comfortably holds a full-resolution photo at high JPG quality. The compressor only spends as much quality as the target demands, which at 2 MB is very little.
